Omara 'Bombino' Moctar is a phenomenon. The guitarist hailing from Niger is a man with a story. In his home country, he is a genuine cult hero among the Tuareg youth, adept at capturing the sound of the African desert with his cutting guitar melodies. Along with names like Tinariwen, Mdou Moctar and Vieux Farka Touré, Bombino has been leading the way in spreading the desert blues/rock style worldwide in recent years, absolutely impossible not to be infected by. His music places the guitar at the centre of a soundscape that combines the traditional with the modern. An expert at creating captivating rhythms, Bombino celebrates Tuareg culture, preserving it so that it will not be forgotten. The inspiration from his music is easy to find in modern celebrated indie bands like Khruangbin, GOAT or Dirty Projectors - David Longstreth from that band also produced the album 'Azel'(2016). Before that it was Dan Auerbach from the Black Keys who was behind the acclaimed breakthrough record 'Nomad'. The record 'Deran'was nominated for a Grammy for Best World Music Album, making Bombino the first ever artist from Niger to receive such a nomination. Right now, Bombino is promoting his seventh album 'Sahel';, which came out in the fall of 2023 via Partisan Records (PJ Harvey, Black Angels, Idles, etc.). Regardless of the challenges life throws at him, Bombino marches ever forward on his mission to use music to spread love, understanding, and the beauty of Tuareg culture throughout the world.
