Raül Refree is known for his ability to transcend traditional genre boundaries as one of the most innovative producers in Europe in the last decade. His music bravely fueled by his enormous musical knowledge of the tradition has placed him in the middle of some truly notable collaborations which include musicians of great individuality such as Rosalía, Silvia Pérez Cruz, Lina, Rocío Márquez, Lee Ranaldo, Niño de Elche, Rodrigo Cuevas and then some. Collaborations that produced critically acclaimed albums that push artistic boundaries. Maria Mazzotta is one of the most important voices of the music scene in the Apulia region of Italy and, with that said in world music. The profound and unapologetic way she performs is both rare and precious, making Maria Mazzotta one of the most intense voices on the European world music scene. Now, this project came about gradually, driven by suggestions from festivals and without the pressure of a recording commitment. Their collaboration gave fruit in the album” San Paolo di Galatina”, where Raül Refree and Maria Mazzotta re-interpret Apulian folklore depicting early 20th-century Italy (religious chants, work songs, lullabies) to emerge from darkness and social suffocation and reach the physical liberation and sense of community so desired in our time.
